Blue wave

With every breath a wave of blue light runs through you from feet to head, and at some point it carries you along.

Medium Duration: 20–30 minutes When: After a few hours of sleep

Why it works

It combines the two things that work best: the breath, which keeps the rhythm and stops the mind wandering, and a simple image the body can feel. The wave asks no effort; it comes and goes by itself like the sea. You only have to let it pass, one breath after another, until one of the waves stays up and lifts you.

Step by step

  1. Relax with the breathOn your back, still, breathe slowly and deeply. With each out-breath let go of one part of the body: feet, legs, hips, back, arms, face.
  2. See the first wavePicture a blue light at your feet, cool and alive like sea water in the sun. With the in-breath it rises along the legs, the belly, the chest, up to the head; with the out-breath it falls back to the feet. One wave for every breath.
  3. Feel the wave, don't watch itAfter a few waves stop seeing it and start feeling it: a coolness flowing over the skin, a tingling that rises and falls. The body must recognise it as a sensation, not as a picture.
  4. Let the waves growEach wave is a little higher and slower than the last. Don't push the breath: just slow down. When rocking, lightness or vibrations come, change nothing.
  5. Stay on the wave that risesAt some point a wave reaches the head and doesn't fall back. Stay with it: let it carry you upwards, like the current of light in the picture, while the physical body stays below, heavy and asleep.

What you might feel

A coolness or tingling flowing along the body in time with the breath, the breath becoming very slow on its own, a rocking feeling, then a feeling of rising.

Astra's tip

Choose one precise shade of blue and keep it every night: the colour becomes a signal, and the body will learn to recognise it before the mind does.

If it doesn't work

I force the breath and get restless
The wave follows the breath, not the other way round. If you notice you are puffing out your chest or counting, go back to a natural breath and let the wave fit itself to it.
The image fades and I fall asleep
Practise after a few hours of sleep, and whenever the light fades bring it calmly back to the feet, without scolding yourself: every return is one more wave.

Log how it went

In the Dream diary every session has its own card: technique, duration, how far you got, vibrations, lucidity. After a few nights you'll see which technique, time and Moon bring you closest.

The techniques are free for everyone. The diary, with your session statistics, is included in the subscription.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take?

Usually 20–30 minutes per session. The first sensations, the flowing coolness and the slowing breath, can come in the first few nights; the real rising takes more patience.

Is it suitable for beginners?

Yes, it's among the most suitable: the rhythm of the breath keeps it simple, and even when it doesn't lead to an exit it leaves deep relaxation and better sleep.
