Vibrational state
Buzzing and vibrations on the edge of sleep: how to recognise them, not fear them and use them to exit.
Why it works
Vibrations are what practitioners ask about most. Many describe them as a loud buzzing, an electric current or a wave running through the body, often just before the exit. More than a technique it's a passage: learning to stay in it calmly is what separates getting close from getting out.
Step by step
- Recognise themBuzzing in the ears, tingling, waves rising from the feet or the head, a feeling of current. They can come during any of the other techniques.
- Don't be afraidThe instinct is to wake up suddenly. Remember it's a known and harmless sensation: breathe and stay still.
- Let them growDon't block or force them. Watch them, like a rising wave: they often become stronger and more even.
- Guide themImagine pushing the vibrations from head to feet and back, like a wave through the whole body. The more even they are, the better.
- ExitWhen they're strong and steady, use an exit technique: float, roll out or climb the rope.
What you might feel
Buzzing, tingling, waves, a feeling of electric current, sometimes loud sounds or a weight on the chest.
Astra's tip
Vibrations aren't the finish line but the door: a sign you're close. Log them in the diary even when you don't get out.
If it doesn't work
- I get scared and wake up
- It happens to almost everyone the first times. Next time you'll know what they are: that alone changes everything.
- I get vibrations but nothing happens
- The most common problem. Don't wait for the exit to come by itself: when they peak, use an exit technique straight away.
Log how it went
In the Dream diary every session has its own card: technique, duration, how far you got, vibrations, lucidity. After a few nights you'll see which technique, time and Moon bring you closest.
The techniques are free for everyone. The diary, with your session statistics, is included in the subscription.
Frequently asked questions
Are the vibrations dangerous?
No, there's no evidence they are. They're an intense sensation of the passage between waking and sleep; but if they often come with fear or sleep paralysis, talk to a doctor.
Is it the same as sleep paralysis?
They often come together, but they're not the same. Paralysis is being unable to move on waking; vibrations are the feeling of energy that can come with it.
